Vegeta brags about his power increase as he bends Dodoria’s arms back nearly to the point of breaking (it hurts to watch). However, Dodoria pleads for his life, bargaining with information on
what really happened to Vegeta’s home world aka. Planet Vegeta. Vegeta’s cocky smile turns to shock and he releases Dodoria to hear what he has to say.
Toei, Toei, Toei…Why do you treat your production cels so poorly? This lovely shot was a pan, but the sides have all been cropped, presumably to fit the cel into one of their frames. This setup
was also slapped on an unmatching BG (now very stuck, with the potential for bleed but hopefully it won’t get far). The cel is also a mish mash of parts from this scene. The smirk on Vegeta’s
face is from when he’s bragging, but his body/head etc are from when he hears Dodoria bargaining with info on his home world, hence the concerned eyebrows. Dodoria’s head is separate as well.
Thankfully the cel layers are stuck in alignment, rather than stuck slightly off kilter, and despite coming from different pieces of the scene, I didn’t notice until I started freaking out that I
couldn’t match up the screen shot.
Despite these issues, I absolutely love this cel. It’s a fantastic shot of Vegeta being his snarky, overconfident self as he rambles on about his strength and royalty. Line fade on this isn’t
bad, though I’m not surprised the bright pink Dodoria has fading. Line fade kept me from collecting Toei cels for years, but I’ve started giving in and accepting that if I want to grow this
collection, I’m going to encounter line fade >.<
